Cornelius Jason ''Neil'' Ammons, Jr., 63, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his residence.

Neil was born in Columbia, South Carolina, December 20, 1945, and was a son of the late Cornelius Jason Ammons and Mattie Lavinia Metts Ammons. He was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Edna ''Chick'' Ammons Pitts.

Neil was an active participant in the Myrtle Beach business community. Under his leadership, the Sea Mist Resort grew from 77 units to the 800 units it is today.

Guided by Neil's vision, the former Grand Strand Amusement Park was reopened following Hurricane Hugo as the Family Kingdom Amusement Park.

Neil also served on the board of directors for Anchor Bank, and the Myrtle Beach National Company. His most recent project was the redevelopment of the Affordable Family Resort with his wife, Glenda.

Surviving are his wife, Glenda M. Ammons of Myrtle Beach; two children, Leigh Chatham Ammons Meese and her husband, David, of Myrtle Beach, and Tena Lorraine Ammons and her husband, Jody, of Myrtle Beach; two stepchildren, Sharon Jordan Parker and her husband, Bud, of Conway, and Steven Wayne Jordan and his wife, Christina, of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Steven Fraser Ammons and his partner, John Henderson, of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Martha Ann ''Marty'' Ammons Bohnenberger and her husband, Gary, of Pelzer; a brother-in-law, Joe Pitts of Union Mills, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jacob Lee Ammons, Robert Brady Meese, Margaret Ann Ammons, Allen Andrew Meese and Grayson Joshua Ammons; and five step-grandchildren, Clay Jordan Parker, Zachary Page Parker, John Dylan Parker, Lucas Wayne Jordan and Ainsley Rae Jordan.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, with the Rev. Ken Timmerman and the Rev. Terrence Grainger officiating. Interment will follow in Southeastern Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m., at McMillan-Small Funeral Home and at other times at the Affordable Family Resort, 2300 S. Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach.

The family would like to thank First United Methodist Church for the use of their Sanctuary due to the mechanical problems with the air conditioning unit at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach.
